Friends Meeting
Who We Are
Founded in 1985, the Friends of the Morris Museum is an auxiliary group that provides fundraising support to the Morris Museum. Friends promote the mission of the Morris Museum through benefit events and activities that encourage membership and increase the visibility of museum programs.

What We Do
The Friends plan and organize various events and projects each year including:

  • Holiday Tree Festival
  • Teddy Bear Tea
  • Kaleidoscope
  • Fall and/or Spring Benefit

Holiday Tree Festival 2004 Committee:
(Seated from left) Carol Macgowan, Marcia Hunter (president of the Friends), Elissa Prystauk
(Standing from left) Judy Sutton, France Delle Donne, Kathy Colston, Gail Compton-Flynn, Joan Petite, Joen Ferrari
These events have enabled the Friends to make significant contributions to the Morris Museum. Over the years, they have funded exhibitions, donated new lighting and benches for the galleries, refurbished the Dodge Room and Children’s Room, and purchased mannequins and computers for the museum.

How We Do It
The Friends meet during the day on the second Monday of the month from September to May at the museum. Meetings, held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., begin with a short business agenda followed by a program and a light lunch. Programs may include private tours of museum exhibitions or previews of new collections. Members of the Friends meet exhibiting artists and enjoy lectures by renowned experts. Guests are welcome at all meetings.

Evening Friends

The Evening Friends provides an opportunity for those who prefer to meet in the evening, by meeting on the third Thursday of the month at the Morris Museum. Meetings include refreshments at 7 p.m. followed by a short business meeting and a program featuring a guest speaker.

How You Can Join
The Friends have 120 members and are always looking for additional members with new ideas. Membership is open to anyone interested in joining the Morris Museum and supporting the Friends and their fundraising activities. Annual dues are $25 plus the cost of your museum membership. Please call the Friends office at 973.971.3733 or e-mail friends@morrismuseum.org for a membership registration form.

Volunteers

School Loan volunteers and staff take break for an end-of-the-year celebration.
The Morris Museum is fortunate to have talented and loyal volunteers who are a vital part of the museum’s organization. Individuals are trained through the volunteer program for positions that utilize their skills and interests to further the mission of the museum. The program ensures that volunteers have a positive work experience and provides recognition for their valuable contributions of time and talent to the museum.

Volunteers serve in various capacities associated with exhibitions, performances, educational programs and visitor services. All volunteers are asked to become members of the Morris Museum.

For information on how to become a volunteer at the Morris Museum, please call 973.971.3721.
