American Social Realism

January 13 – April 13, 2009

Bickford and Bush-Compton Galleries

We will once again create an exhibition in association with ACA Gallery which will encompass a major retrospective of this important movement in American art.  From the late 19th century through to the 2nd World War, American artists moved away from their European counterparts concentrating on realistically depicted scenes from everyday life.  New Jersey played a prominent role in these turbulent times and many artists and intellectuals who left New York City came here to start communities centering around art and politics.
