Morris Museum partners with Neighborhood House to educate local youth

The Morris Museum has established a new working relationship with the Neighborhood House of Morristown to provide educational programs to local youth. Children between the ages of 6 - 10 have participated in several activities this summer and will continue to visit the museum throughout the school year, strengthening the partnership of the two organizations.

Students enjoyed an African Mask lesson through the museum’s Outreach Program. Museum educator, Sarah Morgan offered children a hands-on lesson about African masks in a Neighborhood House classroom. The children were able to hold and touch the masks, while analyzing the cultural differences between each tribal design.

“The students love to be able to touch the objects while learning about the interesting history of each one. It makes learning so much more enjoyable for them,” said Morgan.

Camp groups from Neighborhood House will also visit the museum several times this summer to participate in Exhibition Programs.

“The Morris Museum is delighted to be able to provide fun, educational programming to local children. Our valuable partnership with Neighborhood House enables us to meet our mission,” said Steve Miller, executive director.

Founded in 1913, the Morris Museum explores and celebrates the arts, sciences and humanities through exhibitions, educational programs, performing arts and special events. The museum serves over 211,000 adults and children each year.

The Morris Museum, located at 6 Normandy Heights Road (at the corner of Columbia Turnpike) in Morristown, NJ, is open Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Thursday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; and Sunday, 1-5 p.m. Admission to the museum is $7 for adults and $5 for children, students and senior citizens. Admission is always free for museum members and is free to the public every Thursday between 1 and 8 p.m. For more information, call 973-971-3700, or visit www.morrismuseum.org.
